Slack Wax

Slack wax is a petroleum product that serves as the raw material for paraffin wax production. It is characterized by its yellow or brown color and is essentially a mixture of oil and wax. The refining process involves pressing to reduce the oil content and discoloration using special powders after heating, ultimately resulting in the production of paraffin wax. All types of slack wax are utilized as blending components or waterproofing agents in the manufacturing of various industrial products.

Depending on the viscosity of the lube oil being dewaxed, slack wax is categorized into two types: light and heavy. Light grades have a melting point of 50-52°C, while heavy grades have a melting point of 53-55°C, and their oil content can range from 5.0% to 35%.

Uses of Slack Wax

Slack wax finds application in various industrial products, including:

  • Emulsions
  • Construction boards
  • Matches
  • Candles
  • Rust protective products
  • Moisture vapor barriers
  • Polishes
  • Inks
  • Carbon paper
  • Dust suppressants
  • Controlled-release agents for chemicals and fertilizers

Properties of Slack Wax

Slack wax exhibits special characteristics depending on its formation and melting point, including:

  • Water resistance
  • Thermal insulation
  • Electrical insulation
  • Lubrication properties
  • Low density
  • Melting without decomposition

Difference Between Slack Wax and Paraffin Wax

The primary difference between slack wax and paraffin wax is the oil content, which is higher in slack wax, ranging from 5% to 35%. Additionally, slack wax has lower melting points compared to fully refined paraffin wax. It is often considered a cost-effective alternative to fully refined paraffin wax.

Packing of the Product

Slack wax is typically packaged in new or second-hand 180 kg drums, ISO tanks, and flexi tanks. Each 20-foot container can accommodate 110 drums of slack wax.

Guarantee/Warranty of the Product

BITUPLUS guarantees the quality of slack wax by arranging international inspectors to oversee the quality and quantity of slack wax during the loading process onto vessels. Additionally, quality control is maintained through batch test reports before shipping. BITUPLUS ensures that the quality meets ASTM standards.
