Description of Anionic Bitumen Emulsion MS-2h
Anionic Bitumen Emulsion MS-2h belongs to the category of anionic emulsions and is available in various grades, each characterized by different breaking properties. Rapid-setting emulsions are primarily used for surface dressing applications, while medium or slow-setting emulsions find their use in mixtures, where they are combined with aggregates, either in concrete-type mixers or on-site. Rapid-setting emulsions are unsuitable for mixtures because they tend to solidify during the mixing process, potentially clogging the mixer. Generally, when creating mixtures, the finer the aggregate used, the slower the setting emulsion required. As a result, stone mixtures typically demand medium-setting emulsions, while sand mixtures require slow-breaking emulsions. In the case of anionic emulsions, the breaking process is primarily driven by the evaporation of water in the emulsion’s continuous phase. Consequently, anionic emulsions are sensitive to temperature and humidity, affecting their breaking properties.
Anionic emulsions carry a negative charge, a common characteristic shared by many substances. In the Industrial Coatings Industry, extensive research and development, formulation, and laboratory testing have been conducted to create coatings using anionic systems. When an anionic emulsion is mixed with a cationic emulsion, a strong bond forms, resulting in the transformation of the substance into a solid. However, this outcome is not suitable for use as a coating because it cannot be applied to substrates.
Application of Anionic Bitumen Emulsion MS-2h
Anionic Slow-Setting Bitumen Emulsion MS-2h is a cold, non-fiberated liquid applied waterproofing bitumen emulsion. The product is manufactured using a process in which bitumen, a special emulsifier, water, and other additives are subjected to a high shear rate colloid mill. The properties of bitumen directly influence the emulsion’s specifications. MS-2h is specifically developed for waterproofing applications in buildings, as well as on concrete and metal surfaces. Its high flash point and low solvent content make MS-2h easy to use and a safe product. MS-2h can be applied using various methods, including painting brushes, squeegees, airless spray, and rollers.
Anionic Bitumen Emulsion MS-2h is recommended for pre-mix carpet and patchwork applications. The application rate, as per the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) guidelines, is as follows:
Application | Quantity in kg/10sqm area |
Premix carpet | 20 to 23 (kg / 10sqm area) |
Pothole repair | 7% (weight of aggregate) |
