Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 Description:
Oxidized Bitumen 90/15, also known as oxidized asphalt 90/15, is a semi-solid grade of pure petroleum bitumen produced by subjecting a mixture of Vacuum Bottom (VB) and Vacuum Silas (VS) feedstock to elevated pressure and temperatures between 200-300°C. During this process, the hydrogen atoms in the bitumen molecules oxidize with atmospheric oxygen, resulting in a higher hydrocarbon polymerization reaction. The product obtained has a lower penetration value and a higher softening point compared to pure bitumen. Specifically, it has a softening point of 90°C and a penetration value of 15.
Characteristics:
Oxidized bitumen is specially formulated for construction applications and is known for its unique characteristics, including:
- Wide thermal amplitude tolerance.
- Cold flexibility.
- No sag at high temperatures.
- Good adhesion.
- Versatile application in various construction projects.
Production Process:
The manufacturing process involves subjecting the feedstock to precise conditions of pressure and temperature, leading to molecular changes and the formation of an oxidized bitumen with the desired properties.
Quality Assurance:
BITUPLUS Company ensures the quality of BITUPLUS Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 by deploying international inspectors to verify quality and quantity during loading onto vessels. Additionally, rigorous quality control (QC) is carried out through batch test reports before shipping, with the product designed to meet ASTM standards.
Applications:
Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 has a wide range of applications in the following industries and uses:
- Chemical industry (for manufacturing paints, lacquers, varnishes).
- Fuel industry.
- Paper-pulp-board manufacturing.
- Textile processing.
- Road construction and pavement.
- Crack sealing and repair.
- Civil engineering projects.
- Roofing.
- Construction materials additive.
- Dust-binding applications.
- Insulating and impregnating agent.
- Manufacturing of rubber and plastic products.
- Paving applications.
- Asphalt-based paints for corrosion protection of metals.
- Lining public works structures.
- Adhesives in electrical laminates.
- Base for synthetic turf.
- Waterproofing.
- Corrosion resistance for pipe coatings.
- Portland cement pavement.
- Hydraulic applications.
- Paint manufacturing.
- Caulking.
- Mastics.
- Damp proofing.
- Insulation and isolation bitumen membrane sheets.
- Automobile undercoating in the automotive industry.
Application Guidelines:
To use Oxidized Bitumen 90/15, it should be heated to a temperature double that of its softening point to achieve the desired flow and viscosity. Surfaces intended for application must be dry, clean, and free from loose particles, formwork, curing products, irregularities, slurry, and other contaminants.
Storage and Handling:
Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 has a shelf life of up to 10 years and can undergo multiple heating and cooling cycles. It is advisable to store it in a sheltered area, protecting it from rain and direct sunlight.
Packing:
Various packaging options are available for customer convenience, including Kraft bags, meltable plastic bags, drums, and bulk quantities. The product conforms to ASTM standards and is identified by two numbers indicating the softening point and penetration ranges, with 90/15 representing a softening point of 90°C and a penetration of 15 desi millimeters.
