Bitumen Enamel
Product Description:
Bitumen Enamel is a corrosion-resistant coating made from specially selected bitumen that has been modified through oxidation. This type of modified bitumen has a proven track record of effectively protecting steel pipes from corrosion.
Application:
Bitumen Enamel is applied to steel pipes that have been previously primed with Synthetic Primer. The application process involves heating the coating to a temperature between 215-230°C. This coating system typically includes one layer of inner-wrap and one layer of outer-wrap.
Advantages of Bitumen Enamel:
- Excellent adhesion to steel, providing long-term corrosion resistance.
- Suitable for pipelines designed for various applications, such as water, gas, oil, or other fluids, as long as the continuous temperature of the transported fluid does not exceed 70°C (158°F).
- Environmentally friendly and safer compared to coal tar enamel due to its lower acidity.
- Can be customized with varying grades of bitumen enamel and inner and outer wraps to meet specific design specifications.
- Suitable for a wide range of pipe diameters, from 90 mm (3.5″) to over 1200 mm (48“).
- A well-established and trusted pipe coating material used worldwide.
How to Use Bitumen Enamel:
- Bitumen Enamel should be broken into small pieces and placed into a kettle.
- Heat should be applied gradually until a quantity of melted Enamel forms at the bottom of the kettle.
- Kettles previously used for bitumen should be thoroughly cleaned before use.
- The quantity of enamel remaining in the kettle from previous use should not exceed 10% of the fresh charge.
- The maximum temperature of Enamel in the kettle should never exceed 250°C, and constant stirring is required during use.
- The normal application temperature of Enamel varies with its grade but is typically between 220-240°C.
- Enamel exceeding this temperature should be rejected.
- Enamel should not be applied to the primed pipe when the metal temperature is below 7°C, and the pipe must be free from dust, oil, and moisture.
Storage:
Heated Bitumen Enamel should be stored under constant low-speed stirring. The storage temperature and duration depend on the grade of Bitumen stored.
Standards:
Bitumen Enamel meets or exceeds all the performance requirements of EN 10300 Category 1, Grade b or c, and AWWA C 203.
Quality Control:
All raw materials used in Bitumen Enamel undergo rigorous testing and approval in the laboratories of BITUPLUS BITUMEN Co. The quality of the finished enamel is closely monitored to meet EN 10300 standards or specific customer requirements, and a quality certificate is issued for each batch produced.
