Bituseal Membrane
Product Description:
Bituseal Membrane is constructed with a woven glass fiber carrier that incorporates a durable and flexible polymer-modified bitumen. The outer surface of the membrane is coated with a thin polyolefin film on the backside and a thin layer of sand on the front side, providing both mechanical and solar protection. Bituseal Membrane exhibits exceptional mechanical and elastic properties, which are maintained even at low temperatures, ensuring resistance to mechanical damage and suitability for a wide service temperature range. It is primarily used for field joint corrosion protection on oil, gas, and water pipelines where robust mechanical properties and long service life are critical requirements.
Bituseal Membrane was initially developed for application on Bituseal-coated pipes but has also proven successful with polyethylene and polypropylene coated pipes. Additionally, the membrane can be employed for corrosion protection in pipework, tanks, and various installations. The Bituseal Membrane system includes a fast-drying polymer-compatible primer: Bituseal Primer.
Application:
Before applying Bituseal Membrane, it is crucial to ensure that the steel surface is free from oil and grease. Steel surfaces should be cleaned to a minimum of Sa 2 using a wire brush or blast cleaning. The surface roughness should be at least 50μm. The cleaned area must be primed using Bituseal Primer, which can be applied via spray or brush. Bituseal Membrane is applied manually, with the adhesive backing pressed firmly against the pipeline steel while being heated by a torch. The membrane is progressively unrolled around the pipeline circumference, maintaining a thin bead of molten adhesive between the steel and the membrane until it fully encircles the joint. This technique ensures the exclusion of air from beneath the membrane. For bends and specialty sections, a hand application technique is employed, allowing the membrane to be tailored to suit surface contours.
Storage:
Bituseal Membrane should be stored upright on a dry surface, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. It can be stored in a maximum of two layers.
Product Dimensions:
Bituseal Membrane is available in various sizes according to customer orders. Membranes longer than 1.4 meters are rolled around a core and wrapped with anti-UV heat-shrinkable film, while membranes shorter than 1.4 meters are produced in sheet form and wrapped in anti-UV heat-shrinkable film.
