Description of Anionic Bitumen Emulsion HFRS-2
Anionic Bitumen Emulsion HFRS-2 falls within the category of anionic emulsions and is available in various grades, each characterized by distinct breaking properties. Rapid-setting emulsions are typically employed for surface dressing applications, whereas medium or slow-setting emulsions are utilized in mixtures, where they are combined with aggregates, either in concrete-type mixers or on-site. Rapid-setting emulsions are not suitable for mixtures because they tend to solidify during the mixing process, potentially obstructing the mixer. Generally, when creating mixtures, the fineness of the aggregate used determines the required setting time for the emulsion. Consequently, stone mixtures generally call for medium-setting emulsions, whereas sand mixtures require slow-breaking emulsions. In the case of anionic emulsions, the breaking process primarily occurs through the evaporation of water in the emulsion’s continuous phase. As a result, anionic emulsions are sensitive to temperature and humidity, affecting their breaking characteristics.
Anionic emulsions carry a negative charge, a common characteristic shared by many substances. In the Industrial Coatings Industry, extensive research and development, formulation, and laboratory testing have been conducted to develop coatings using anionic systems. When an anionic emulsion is mixed with a cationic emulsion, a strong bond forms, resulting in the transformation of the substance into a solid. However, this outcome is not ideal for use as a coating because it cannot be applied to substrates.
Application of Anionic Bitumen Emulsion HFRS-2
Anionic Slow-Setting Bitumen Emulsion HFRS-2 is a cold, non-fiberated liquid applied waterproofing bitumen emulsion. The product is manufactured through a process in which bitumen, a special emulsifier, water, and other additives are processed using a high shear rate colloid mill. The properties of bitumen directly impact the emulsion’s specifications. HFRS-2 is specifically developed for waterproofing applications in buildings, as well as on concrete and metal surfaces. Its high flash point and low solvent content make HFRS-2 easy to use and a safe product. HFRS-2 can be applied using various methods, including painting brushes, squeegees, airless spray, and rollers.
Anionic Bitumen Emulsion HFRS-2 is recommended for pre-mix carpet and patchwork applications.
